Why are millions of kilos of fruit and vegetables thrown away every year in Austria alone, before they even get near the shops? The fruit is perfect in quality but: too small, too big, unattractive or simply too much, to name just a few of the hundreds of reasons. Not with me, said Cornelia Diesenreiter, Austrian of the Year 2019, and founded the company Unverschwendettogether with her brother Andreas in 2016.

They take over surplus fruit and vegetables from the farmers and transform the food into unique product delicacies. The sad side: they can't resist offers of raw materials, the good side: business is booming.

Cornelia Diesenreiter tells us the story of her own transformation, her heroic journey from cook to student, then back to the kitchen and finally to successful entrepreneur and why the 100,000 kilos of food saved are far from enough.
